Maybe I shouldn't say this...

But I've been thinking about it for awhile and I'm not trying to offend anyone so I'm just going to go ahead and ponder...

What's the derrogatory term in England or the UK for homosexuals if faggot means cigarette?

I was listening to the wonderful and amazing Juno soundtrack and one of the songs talks about a guy loving his fag. Which I know means cigarette. But then what's the derrogatory term for gay people if fag is taken?

Sorry I've been MIA. I've been sick and super busy and sick of being super busy. I've got a sinus infection which I'm trying to treat at home b/c every time I go to urgent care, they don't listen to me and prescribe me something that I'm allergic to. Great. I know. And I know that should get a personal physician, but they don't have good hours and I really don't want to miss anymore work than absolutely necessary. So...I'm sick and Parent Teacher Conferences are this week. Tonight and Wednesday. Which means I'm at work from 8:30 in the morning until 7:30 in the evening with no break. Suck.

But I'm looking forward to Friday. Friday night is my holiday couple's dinner. We're having steak and shrimp kabobs with peppers, onions, mushrooms, and the little round tomatos. A salad courtesy of Beth. Yummy baked potatoes with italian seasoning and parmesean cheese. Wine courtesy of Andrea. And the Piece de Resistance, heart shaped chocolate swirl cheesecake. Mmm!

First, I want a piece of that cake. I love cheese cake- hubs hates it, and since I don't want to be 'forced' to eat an entire cake, I just don't bake it.
Sorry to hear you've not been well, especially with a sinus infections - yuck.
Hope you feel better soon.

I'm a Brit and am happy to help you out :)

We don't call cigarettes 'faggots'. Just 'fags.' (Or 'ciggies'). I'm not sure how using 'fag' for a cigarette originally came about, but it's just one of those really common words.

'Faggot' (or 'fag' for short) IS an offensive term for a homosexual; usually a rather flamboyant gay male.

Again, I don't know exactly how it began, but here in the UK 'faggot' is also a type of food that one usually consumes with 'mash and peas'. It's like those processed meatballs served with gravy.

The word is/was also used to describe a bundle of [firewood] sticks. Although we don't commonly call firewood faggots.

Hope this helps! :)

Okay, stupid me - now that I think about it, I'm guessing the cigarette term of fag must have originated from the firewood sticks.

Ta-dah! Now that's something I didn't know until this evening :P
